Bonefish Bonanza

Its been an exciting few weeks on Fanning Island, and the resort has been a buzz. As we begin to prepare to welcome our very first guests to the Resort, our staff have been taking the time to find their favorite fishing spots around the island. Of course, most of these are Bonefish flats! Much like Christmas Island, Fanning Island boasts a set of flats that is virtually unbeatable for Bonefishing, just ask our guide, Alex Budge. He has been hauling in prize fish for decades, and can certify to Fanning Island’s impressive selection of those beautiful silver fish.

The temperature in the water as well as on the island has been hot, which, as you may well know, tends to enliven the bonefish, making them even more vigorous fighters than they already are. That hasn’t stopped us, however, and we’ve been pulling the bonefish in like nobody’s business. 

One night we enjoyed some mouthwatering lobster caught in our lagoon by one of the staff. You can’t get any fresher than that! It was wonderful enjoy the bounty with good drinks and good people.

The next few days, with weather forecast to be tropical warm as usual, so we plan on fly-fishing to our heart’s content. Recently, the bonefish have been tailing more than usual (as the search for food in the shallow flats), making them easy to spot. 

We can’t wait to see the look on our guests’ faces when they hook that first bonefish (maybe it will be their first ever!). Until then, we’re putting on our wading flats and heading out into the pristine lagoon waters, then heading back to the resort for final preparations.
