THE WONDERFUL WEST
Due to some intense trade winds over the last 3 days we’ve been forced to embark on some surf missions up the west coast. Plenty of swell in the water, which is typical for this time of year. With the direction of the trades, SE, we are usually heading to Middles or Coconut Grove.
Our first trip to Middles gave us some shifty 3-4 ft walls on the left whilst picking the correct wave on the right would result in a drainer. Many displayed a keen backhand attack, with driving bottom turns and set-rail carves. The beers were cooling in the eski for the duration of the surf to accompany us on the drive home.
The journey to Coconut Grove yesterday was somewhat of a Samoan village animal safari with our van having to slow down for cows, chickens and a whole family of piglets. I guess thats how they roll over here, free range.
Coconut Grove greeted us the only way Savai'i’s counter trade wind break would, with perfectly offshore winds and some welcomed sunshine.
