Sitting atop a bluff on a stretch of white sand beach on central south coast of Sri Lanka, Ani Villas Sri Lanka commands a panoramic view of brilliant blue waters rolling in among headlands, reefs, and sandbars.

The sprawling 15 bedroom beachfront compound was designed to offer large groups and families an exclusive and pampered vacation. A full staff and service teams including private butlers, chefs, housekeepers, concierge service, and security—all exclusively yours.

Created by Reda Amalou and AW2 of Paris, the property combines contemporary tropical architecture with the finest bespoke finishes and furnishings. The facility itself includes a spa, oversized oceanfront pools, dedicated children’s pools with exciting waterslides, and a plethora of spaces for dining and entertainment. An event pavilion and related facilities allow the property to host a wide range of events including weddings and corporate retreats.

Welcome to Sri Lanka

The stunning beachfront estate at Ani Villas Sri Lanka offers guests a magical South Asian experience. Many activities and amenities are included in standard rates, allowing guests to enjoy as much relaxation, adventure, and cultural experience as desired.

Venture beyond the estate to explore magical Sri Lanka—the UNESCO World Heritage Site at Galle, leopard-spotting at the nation’s game reserves, tea tasting at the highlands’ plantations—or simply settle in for quality time to reconnect.

Savaiʻi is the largest and highest island in Samoa and the Samoa Islands chain, reaching a maximum altitude of 1,858 metres at Mt Silisili. It is also the biggest landmass in Polynesia outside Hawaii and New Zealand. The island of Savai’i is also referred to by Samoans as Salafai, a classical Samoan term used in oratory and prose. The island is home to 43,142 people who make up 24% of the country’s population.

The only township and ferry terminal is Salelologa, the main entry point to the island, situated at the east end of Savai’i. A tar sealed road serves as the one main highway, connecting most of the villages with local buses reaching most settlements.

Due to the this remote location and low levels of traditional hospitality – Savai’i remains largely unspoilt by the rampant development in most parts of the South Pacific. Pegasus Lodges welcomes you and your family to visit the private beaches and waves of Aganoa Lodge and experience the beauty and culture of the Polynesian paradise which is Samoa.

The Ani Villas Sri Lanka estate is nestled on its own peaceful stretch of beach on the island’s central south coast. View the location on Google Maps.

The Ani Villas Sri Lanka foodservice team, lead by our executive Chef Cyril, delivers a world-class gourmet dining experience. Chef Cyril is a Sri Lankan cuisine expert having previously worked in the Maldives and at Aman Resorts. In addition to fantastic local dishes he has extensive experience with international fare, fusion, and Western cuisine.

The cuisine of Sri Lanka has been influenced by many cultures over the centuries: local spice producers, Indian neighbors, traders from across the Indian Ocean basin, and even former colonial powers. Hearty meals with aromatic curries, flavorful chutneys, and fresh ingredients are common, always followed by a local sweet.

Meals are served in any of the estate’s spectacular dining venues. The main open dining structures enjoy spectacular views from their perches above the beach. Cafés and instructional kitchens allow guests to learn from the chef and gain insight into Sri Lankan culinary technique.

There are over 10 different waves within an hour’s run of the lodge; the majority are within 30 minutes. The surf here is ultra-consistent, with lefts and rights that work in all tides. Best of all, the variety of surf offers many options for all levels of surfers and equipment.

Over the past 30 years we’ve been in the region, we’ve had the privilege to “discover” many waves and surf a multitude of others. The incredible part about most breaks on Savai’i (including the main break out front) is how accessible they are. While most breaks on neighboring Upolu require a boat ride to an outer reef, nearly all of Savai’i’s waves are a short paddle from the Lodge.

our surfing guides

At Aganoa Lodge Samoa, our guides are the key to our success, and are responsible for countless guests surfing the best waves of their lives. We invest seriously in hiring and developing the best surf guides in the world. World-class surfers who focus on enhancing your experience, not their own. They ensure your time is maximized, and match a break’s degree of difficulty with your own capabilities.

You can fly into Apia on the island of Upolu, Samoa via Fiji Air, Virgin Samoa or Air New Zealand from many Pacific hubs such as: L.A., Honolulu, Auckland, Nadi, Sydney and Brisbane. From there, a designated surf guide from Aganoa will meet you at the airport with a van and transport you to the ferry terminal 10 minutes away. From there, it’s a quick hour-long ferry ride (with multiple crossings all day) from Upolu to Savai’i. Then another 10 minutes by van to the private beach at Aganoa Lodge.

90 minutes after landing you should be waxing up your board and receiving EXPERT instruction on where the best waves are before being transferred to them!

In 2003 veteran Pacific explorer, Keith Martin, and wife Lanuola, opened the “doors” (though there were none) to the Aganoa Beach Retreat. The operation was rustic and unassuming, but guests enjoyed a perfect beach and pristine lagoon as two world-class waves peeled just 100 meters away. For more then a decade, Aganoa remained frozen in time while the Martins raised their young family and hosted itinerant international surfers fortunate enough to have found their way to Savai’i.  In 2014 the operation was re-branded Aganoa Lodge Samoa through a partnership between the Martin’s and Pegasus Lodges. Highly-versatile San Francisco-based designer, Josef Medellin, was engaged to oversee a complete refurbishment of the facility with the goal of creating an atmosphere steeped in rustic luxury; highly designed and curated yet never for a moment forgetful of its humble roots and the beautiful simplicity of the natural environment.

The best part about a trip to Aganoa are the welcoming, lovely and genuine local people. Samoans are extremely family-orientated, predominantly religious and still very traditional — Sunday being a national day of rest. In this day and age, however, the virtual Eden-like landscape of Savai’i has not changed much. Local villages are simple with various chiefs maintaining order in each township, every home has a garden, cattle and pigs roam the properties, schooling is extremely important and the population is quite happy.
